George Sheldon is a coffee-loving, light-chasing, photography junkie who is most inspired by people, places, and the darnedest things. He calls the Pennsylvania Dutch Country home but enjoys teaching photography workshops throughout the US. Sheldon is known for creating both editorial and commercial photography.
I sold my first photos when I was 14 – and I am still behind the lens over 50 years later. I have also written and published over 35 books (I’ve actually lost count of how many I created). My topics included history, business, and technology. All of my books were nonfiction. Some of my books that include my photography are When the Smoke Cleared at Gettysburg, Fire on the River, and Pennsylvania: Field Guide to State History.
Just so you know:
George Sheldon (real name)
Lancaster PA (often known as the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Although I live in Lancaster County, I am not Amish. But I do live close to many Amish and Mennonite homes and farms.
CANON or NIKON:
PC or Mac:
Coffee, black. I like the Doughnut Shop blends the best.
DOG or CAT:
Both (and I am amazed by horses, too!)
Mean people, especially bullies.
Shore (the beach)
LIKE TO DO WHEN ON THE GETAWAY:
Walk the boards, enjoy the warm ocean breezes.
Somewhat of a regular news junkie .
NEVER CAN HAVE ENOUGH:
Coffee – black, please.
FAVORITE PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH FOOD:
Shoo Fly Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, and Whoopie Pies, of course! Scrapple, not so much.
COOL THING I GOT TO DO:
I met and photographed Jerry Mathers (The Beaver), Tony Dow (Wally), Barbara Billingsley (Mrs. Cleaver), and Ken Osmond (Eddie Haskell) when they were making an appearance in Hershey at Hersheypark.
Laughing at old comedy routines, like the time Groucho Marx said, “I’ve had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn’t it.”
James Bond movies. (Yes I saw SPECTRE) – Thank you, Mr. Daniel Craig, for agreeing to do another Bond movie! I can't wait to see Bond 25.
More about George Sheldon
My main coverage area is the Mid-Atlantic states. This includes Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC. Major metro areas include Philadelphia, Baltimore, and the District of Columbia.
It always fascinates how many times I am asked about my gear. I certainly don't mind revealing what I use to create my images intended as part of my stock photo portfolio.
I am a Canon shooter. I have nothing against Nikon, Sony, or any other brand. I started with Canon in the early 80's and have been a user since those days of film and AE-1 35mm. In 2002, I started the switch from film to digital, and in 2004, I gave up my film gear. These days, I am using Canon EOS 6D's to create stock images. Both of my 6D's are well worn, and equipped with battery grips (a preference of mine).
I use only Canon accessories, such as lenses and flash. My two primary (most used) lens are the Canon EF 70-200mm L F2.8 USM Lens and the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens.
